ZF in Peterlee has smashed its £1,000 fundraising target after entering a team into Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event in Sunderland earlier this month.

Thirteen staff members took part in the charity event, with the only male who entered, Harry Robson, crossing the line in first place.

For being the first person to finish the 5K fun run, Harry got the ring the bell, which is a nod to the process that happens when someone completes their cancer treatment programme.

Lisa Hudson, HR Manager at ZF, said: “We all had great fun and really enjoyed the competition between the members of the team to see who would cross the line first.

“That honour went to Harry Robson, who was the only male from the team to enter the race.

“Our target was to raise £1,000 and I’m delighted to say we’ve passed that amount which is fantastic, having collected £1,194.27 in total.”

The team’s entry was co-ordinated by HR Officer Emma Metcalf on Lisa Hudson’s behalf and came about after ZF Peterlee agreed a partnership with Cancer Research UK to promote the charity’s Race for Life events.

Lisa added: “Unfortunately as company we’ve lost too many employees and friends to cancer, while many others have seen loved ones suffer with the awful disease. By supporting the Race for Life events and taking part ourselves, we’re doing out bit to help the charity fight cancer and hopefully save more lives.”

Vikki Lambert is Cancer Research UK’s Area Events Manager for Scotland, North East England and Northern Ireland. She said: “The ZF team did so well, especially Harry Robson who crossed the line first and got to ring the bell. It sounds like they all enjoyed themselves too which is what our events are all about.

“Their efforts alone have so far raised over £1,000 which makes a massive difference in our fight against cancer, so a big thank you to everyone who took part and all those people who parted with their money to sponsor them.”
